How has living in London shaped your design philosophy, especially in balancing tradition with modernity?
The deep historical roots in London inspire a respect for craftsmanship and heritage. I often draw on traditional materials and methods, but reinterpret them in ways that resonate with today’s lifestyles and technologies. London’s multicultural environment and cultural diversity encourages the incorporation of varied influences, allowing me to blend traditional elements of my cultural heritage with modern aesthetics. This fusion enriches my designs, making them more relatable and inclusive. In essence, living in London has instilled in me a design philosophy that values the dialogue between past and present, creating a harmonious blend that is both respectful of tradition and open to modern influences.
What does modern femininity mean to you, and how do you express this through your designs?
Modern femininity can be seen as an expression and celebration of individuality, strength, and versatility. It embraces a diverse range of identities and experiences, moving beyond traditional stereotypes to encompass a more inclusive definition of what it means to be feminine.
In my designs, I express modern femininity by focusing on incorporating various silhouettes, colours, and patterns that appeal to different tastes and body types, allowing individuals to express their uniqueness, diversity and styles.
Secondly one must focus on functionality and creating pieces that are not only stylish but also practical, reflecting the busy, multifaceted lives that many women lead today, and notable is empowerment, using designs that promote confidence, whether through flattering fits, bold statements, or intricate details that make the wearer feel powerful and beautiful.
Emphasizing eco-friendly materials and ethical production practices, aligning with the modern feminine ethos of caring for the planet and future generations is vital consideration in one’s work as a designer in these times.
